Dear Expectant Parent,
We can only imagine how you are feeling as you sit and read this letter. Eric and I are writing this letter now together feeling the importance of the moment, hopeful and excited about the chance to become parents through adoption. We hope that as you get to know us you'll see a genuine, fun-loving couple with a secure life together. We live in an atmosphere filled with lots of friends, family and love. Eric and I would cherish the opportunity to become parents and to support and love a child as they grow up.
As a quick snapshot of us, we met 9 years ago as co-workers in an architecture firm and were married 4 years later surrounded by a large group of friends and family. We live and work in New York City. I’m an exhibition designer and Eric is an architect. I have a passion for furniture design, but love creative pursuits in general. Eric loves music. He sings and plays a few different instruments and loves writing songs. We both are very passionate, thoughtful, and supportive. We are good listeners and are very open-minded as well. We go through each day creatively and would love a little one to join our team and our life.
Open adoption is important to us. We feel it’s helpful for a child's identity to know their birth family and where they came from. Open for us also means open-minded. Life has lots of unexpected turns and it can be hard to maneuver at times. An open mind, along with support from friends and family, really helps. We understand that open may not be the right choice for you. We will respect your wishes regarding openness and what level of contact our families will share. As Eric and I pursued the traditional way of creating a family (along with some poking and prodding by doctors) our notion of family and how to go about creating one began to evolve. We've met some great people along our journey into the world of adoption; adopted children, birth-families and adoptive parents who helped us re-defined this traditional notion of family in a really beautiful way. We are excited about this.
